Slippers 30/04/2021
The children created, designed and assembled their own personalised slippers.
They explored how designers need to consider appearance, function, cost and safety when designing products.
Children measured their feet onto their chosen coloured card and use it for the sole of the slipper. They then looked at templates of shapes which they can stitch or stick onto their slipper as decoration and decided which of the several types of decorations they could make and decorate their slippers, in accordance with their design plan. Some of the different types of decoration techniques that were discussed included Felt, sequins, glitter, glue, stencils, felt tips, wool etc.
They finished off by writing an evaluation on the effectiveness of their slippers.
The next lesson, the children created their slippers using felt. They used different stitching techniques to sew together pieces of felt. Well done!
